Roussillon is famous for red cliffs and ochre quarries. The
colors of the ochre quarries are reflected in the colors of the village. The
colors
contrasts vividly with the blue of the Provençal sky.
For those who don't know, ochre is a mineral that has been used for centuries
as a coloring material for paint and other media. Above is one of the ochre cliffs
for which Roussillon is famous.
